Last week, German label Boss travelled to China and unveiled its Pre-Fall 2020 collection in the repurposed oil storage tanks of art hub Tank Shanghai. Ingo Wilts, chief brand officer of Hugo Boss, says, “We chose Shanghai as the stage to debut our Boss menswear and womenswear Pre-Fall collection as it is a dynamic city on its way to becoming an international fashion capital.”
Riding on Spring 2020’s wave of tonal dressing, Boss’s womenswear and menswear came awash in head-to-toe single hues. Opening the show was model Lina Zhang (at centre), who led the collection’s first batch of optical white numbers.
The collection’s womenswear didn’t shy away from zesty shades, harnessing fluid layered dresses and loose suiting in vivid turquoise.
For both women’s and men’s, sharp, minimal outerwear abounded. Sculptured suiting came defined with structured shoulders.
Technical, weather-proof parkas were constructed in easy fabrication, from paper-touch nylon to light wool.
The accessories were equally clean and sleek, with handbags featuring unfussy lines.

The modern and streamlined looks indicated that Wilts had urban ease first and foremost on his agenda.
Eclectic patterns offset the show’s bare sartorial canvases, offering bold individuality where needed.
Actor Henry Cavill was among the show’s star-studded guest list.
