The opening sequence of Mikimoto’s latest advertising campaign video titled “#Findyourpearl” paints an introduction to the jeweller’s new ambassador, Chinese actress Dilraba Dilmurat. Like the pearls she wears, Dilmurat’s porcelain complexion is as flawless and her every move, as elegant.

The campaign comes as part of commemorating the Japanese jeweller’s 125th anniversary this year. The video takes the viewer on a journey, translating the ethereal beauty of the house’s pearl acquisitions and its inspirations into an awe-inspiring visual feast to the eye.

Highlighted in the video, the Japanese jeweller’s “M” collection, named after the brand’s initial, demonstrates the timeless appeal and ease of wear of its pieces. After all, in the immortal words of Coco Chanel, “A woman needs ropes and ropes of pearls.” While diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, pearls wear well regardless of age.

In an email correspondence with T Singapore, Dilraba shares what it means to be named an ambassador of Mikimoto.

KAMES NARAYANAN: On the daily, what type of accessories do you see yourself reaching for?

DILRABA DILMURAT: I like to accessorise my outfits with a pair of classic pearl stud earrings as it is very versatile yet elegant and chic. The classic pearl stud earrings go with so many different kind of outfits! Recently, I’ve also been wearing pieces from Mikimoto’s M Collection when I want more sparkle. I really like how the collection fuses pearls and diamonds in a contemporary yet sophisticated manner.

KN: What is Mikimoto to you?

DD: Mikimoto is a timeless brand, with more than 100 years of history that has dedicated itself to the pursuit of beauty, presenting the best pearl jewellery to allow women to express their beauty with confidence.

KN: What is your favourite piece of jewellery from Mikimoto?

DD: I love the necklace that I wore as a bracelet from the Mikimoto Les Pétales Place Vendôme Collection. To me, jewellery is a form of self-expression that reflects one’s personality and taste. I like how you can wear a piece of jewellery in different ways, so you can bring out your own individual style.

KN: What does #Findyourpearl mean to you?

DD: Pearls are products of nature and the creation of a pearl is a fascinating process, similar to the journey of life. It requires patience and perseverance before results start to show. To me #Findyourpearl means to look within yourself and appreciate your own unique qualities. Some things take more time and the process of getting there is [as] equally important as the outcome. I think patience is very important for determination and persistence and that is something I have learnt to do and embrace, both with myself and when it comes to dealing with situations.

KN: What is it about pearls that resonates the most with you?

DD: I think pearls are different from other gemstones because pearls represent subtle beauty. Their sparkle is different from diamonds and they have a unique yet subtle lustre which is elegant and exquisite, which is why I really like pearls.

KN: What do you think makes a woman feel beautiful?

DD: I think confidence makes a woman beautiful. To be confident, you need to be able to accept yourself for who you are, so it’s very important that you learn to understand and love yourself. I really think the #Findyourpearl Mikimoto campaign is an important one because when you feel good about yourself, you’ll be happy and to me that’s true beauty.
