In the realm of footwear, it is a rarity for a heeled sandal to earn a cult following or rise in the ranks as the season’s “It” shoe. While they may not be lauded for their sex appeal like a pair of stilettoes or the street wear sensibilities of a sneaker, what they offer is an underrated ease that meets functionality and aesthetic in the middle. At Kenzo’s Spring/Summer ’18 collection, the status quo of the footwear underdog is reconsidered. Drenched in the season’s paisley print, which was also observed on the ready-to- wear offerings, the Aori heeled sandal takes on the bohemian romanticism of the ’70s. Fitted with a subtle, yet noticeable curved heel, creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon’s proposal of the contemporary heeled sandals is a step away from the archetypal nondescript offerings.
Kenzo Aori heeled sandals, available on kenzo.com for €375.00, approximately S$599.30.
