On the heel tab of the Air Max Dia is a quartet of dots, a symbolic allusion to the creative collective behind it: a four female design team made of a designer, engineer, developer and product manager. The Dia is Nike’s cerebral homage dedicated to its pool of female sneakerheads, of which elements are rallied from Nike’s all-star bests. Its tooling outsole swells in a smooth marshmallow puff, reminiscent of the beloved Moon Racer. The translucent skin of its upper, called the Nexkin and was previously seen on the Element React 87, is “a vessel to show personality through sock choice,” writes Nike in a statement. Then, of course, there’s the Air Max’s talismanic Air sole unit, but this time splayed around the stacked heel and blown up into a magnified proportion — a telling sign of a classic’s bold rebirth.
