The longstanding partnership between Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto, under the moniker Y-3, is already into its 15th year. The pair has established a visual vocabulary drawn in equal parts from the sportswear label as it from the cult Japanese design luminary. Y-3’s Fall/Winter ’19 collection was built around the codes of sportswear elevated through Yamamoto’s distinct avant-garde flair. A case in point is the collection’s high-cut sneaker-boot hybrid. Going by the urban dress code of the contemporary man on the move, sneakers hold a permanent place as staple footwear for the everyday. At Y-3, the archetypal sneaker is taken a step further and reimagined as a utilitarian armour to conquer the rudimentary. Cut significantly higher than even the usual high cut sneaker, the lace-up finds solid footing and supports dynamic movement.
