Under creative director Anthony Vaccarello, the house of Saint Laurent has become known for celebrating the physical beauty of the female form. While that’s often accomplished with skintight, revealing pieces in leather, lace, Lurex and latex, there’s the understanding that an outfit can also be sexy even when it completely covers the body. In that vein, the Italo-Belgian designer transformed an archival design of Yves Saint Laurent — the Anaïs pump — to complement his vision for the French label. With a 55-millimetre heel, pointed toe and flat bow festooned with the recognisable YS monogram in gold, these leather pumps are a world away from the tall strappy heels or leather booties usually beloved by Vaccarello. But their vintage charm honours the house’s French heritage, while the modest mid-heel silhouette allows women to express themselves in more ways than one.
