Hunter’s boots are a prevalent sighting during the rainy seasons, splashing through street puddles without worry whenever a gentle sprinkle falls or in a torrential downpour. Which is likely why most would find their minimal yet instantly recognisable design familiar, with a bold rectangular logo stamp on its front shaft differentiating these trusted boots from other similarly sensible footwear. But their latest collaboration with storied French luxury label Saint Laurent offers up a pair of limited-edition boots that’s visually slightly different. In addition to its ubiquitous waterproof natural rubber silhouette, this latest collaborated footwear, which comes exclusively in smooth black, is rendered with edgy silver studs all over. An adjustable silver buckle and a discreet logo of the two labels embossed on the calves rounds up its sleek design.

While this collaboration between Saint Laurent and Hunter would seem an unlikely pairing to many, what one may have overlooked is that the two labels share the common ground of having a rich cultural history. Take the inspiration behind this latest footwear — Hunter’s classic wellington boot design, for instance. Created back in 1856 Scotland, the boots were a first of its kind, produced via a patented process that crafts remarkably resistant rubber capable of withstanding some of the most challenging elements and environments. Those who need assurance for its uncompromising quality, will only need to note that in both World Wars, Hunter was commissioned to produced these signature boots for the country’s soldiers battling in the unforgiving trenches. Another noteworthy tidbit of this British heritage label, is its distinction of bearing two Royal Warrants of Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. The Saint Laurent story, on the other hand, with numerous films documenting its namesake founder, his inspirations and lavish lifestyle, needs no introduction.

With all that being said, no one is honestly suggesting wearing these Saint Laurent x Hunter boots in harsh terrains. They are, after all, designed more to imbue a sophisticated sensibility to some of the most functional footwear around, as opposed to being a new rendition of a classic design that boasts enhanced protection features. Though, if one does plan on donning these on their next hike, they can be rest assured that these boots will serve them just fine.
