T List: Unconventional Valentine's Day Gifts

By Eugene Lim

As great as the film, “Forest Gump” was, we respectfully disagree that with the iconic quote,
“life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” We all know what
most people are going to get this Valentine’s Day… more chocolates. But if you are looking
for a special gift for that special someone, that is more than just the usual run-of-the-mill of
heart shaped graphics on garments, flowers or chocolates, then this T List is the one for you.
There are some of our favourite picks.

Alessi Coban RS05 Nespresso Capsule Espresso Machine

Considered one of the most important designers of his generation, Richard Sapper, melded both his German precision, as well as Italian sensibilities for a series of iconic coffee markers for Alessi. Our favourite from the lot is the ultra-rare Coban RS05 Nespresso capsule machine designed in 1998. Think of it as a brutalist sculpture for your house, that gives a nice caffeine kick in the morning.

Raf Simons Fall/Winter’16 distressed monogram-appliqué wool sweater

There a few menswear designer that occupy the rarefied air that Raf Simons does. In celebration of this eponymous label’s 25th anniversary, Simons is re-releasing 100 pieces from the brand’s hallowed archives. One seminal piece is this oversized, distressed sweater from his Fall/Winter ’16 collection, that paid tribute to one of his fashion heroes, Martin Margiela, with the subversion of Americana uniforms.

Margiela Grand Slam bag

Making its debut on the Maison Margiela Spring/Summer ’18 show, the Grand Slam bag carries the ethos of the house  — playing on transmuting everyday items and elevating them into iconic pieces. While you might think that a bag would not be the most pragmatic gift during these social distancing times, the Grand Slam doubles up nicely as a supple leather sculpture.

Sorry I am such an asshole balloons by ADAMJK

Love is not perfect and neither are well, this is a tongue-in-cheek gift that pokes fun at that. From the artist Adam J.Kurtz’s art and stationary line, ADAMJK, these balloons are the perfect gift that is fun, weird and sentimental all at once.

Lyre’s American Malt

If you elevate the mocktail to its logical conclusion, you would have a non-alcoholic cocktail that has all the flavours of its alcoholic counterpart. Here is where Lyre's and their non- alcoholic take on the American Malt comes in. Featuring a complex melody of vanilla, toasted nuts and herb notes, it taste just like the real thing, with none of the hangover.

Yoga Classes at Yoga Movement’s latest Orchard flagship store

Sometimes the best gift for a couple is a new experience. Yoga Movement’s largest flagship studio at Orchard Road is more than just another fitness space. The studio also partnered up with Common Man Coffee Roasters for post workout fuel.
